Fundamental research in the field of stem cell biology represent highly valuable experimental platform for the development and implication of new methods for correction and treatment of various human pathologies, using regenerative medicine and tissue engineering approaches. Currently in Ukraine, the significant number of experimental studies, aimed to investigate the properties of stem cells ex vivo and their behavior and fate in animal models in vivo are conducted. The effective development of this research direction needs the organization of meetings for the presentation and thorough discussion of the obtained results. During the past several years different research and medical organization from several Ukrainian cities held a number of international conferences and congresses.
In May 2012, Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine, NAS of Ukraine organized the First mini-symposium for young scientists Stem Cell Day (Photos). Young scientists representing research organizations from several cities of Ukraine (Kharkiv, Kyiv, Donetsk, Sumy) took part in the event, and the presented studies attained much interest and attention among audience. The represented materials have been published as short communications in the Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine journal. As a result of mini-symposium the decision on further development of such type of communication and discussion has been made.
In 2013, the Second “Stem cell day” was held by State Institute of Genetic and Regenerative Medicine, NAMS of Ukraine. 15 speakers from 14 research, clinical and biotechnological establishments of Ukraine, Russian Federation and Kazakhstan have been participating in the event. Audience comprised more than 60 guests from 20 institutions from Ukraine, Russian Federation and the USA. The most represented materials were published in the Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine journal (issues 3 and 4 of Volume 24, 2014).
The third Stem cells day was due to held on April 25, 2014 in Donetsk, hosted by V.K. Gusak State Institute of Urgent and Reconstructive Surgery, NAMS of Ukraine. Unfortunately, the strained situation rapidly developing in the spring 2014 did not allow the meeting to occur.
This year our mini-symposium will be held on November 8, 2017 in Kyiv.
